River of Light 2018

Workshop
Wednesday 22nd, 9.00-16.30
Glashuset, Valand

River of Light is an inclusive arts intervention, now in its third year, which takes place in various locations (over 20 workshops in schools, NGO’s, refugee camps etc) and culminates on 20 February (UN’s World Day of Social Justice), in a large scale processional event of over 200 lanterns in the heart of Gothenburg city attracting an audience of over 1000 people ). At the centre of the project are the lantern-making workshops which serve as meeting points in the community for new arrivals and Swedish young people and families, and use art as a tool to break the boundaries of language, geography, cultural divisions and thereby bring people of all kinds of backgrounds together who would not normally meet.  The project was created in the belief that creativity and working with artists can accelerate the process of integration especially amongst unaccompanied minors and their Swedish peers.

We are offering a training day for students from HDK and Valand and art teachers from the Kultur Skolan in Gothenburg who would like to work with us for at least one day or 2 session in Sportlovet week 7 when we offer workshops to the public.

There are limited places so please sign up by emailing Anna Carlson at [email protected]

The Workshop is lead by Behjat Omer Abdulla
